This drug is known to cause birth defects; women of childbearing age should use effective contraception. Regular monitoring of liver function, platelet count, and serum valproate levels is recommended.

In case of overdose, seek emergency medical attention immediately. Symptoms may include drowsiness, heart block, and deep coma. Gastric lavage may be beneficial if performed within 2 hours. Naloxone can reverse CNS depression. Hemodialysis may be effective in severe cases.
