How It Works

Selective serotonin 5-HT3 receptor antagonist; blocks serotonin binding at 5-HT3 receptors in the chemoreceptor trigger zone and gastrointestinal tract.

Mechanism Steps

1Granisetron binds to 5-HT3 receptors on vagal nerve terminals in the gastrointestinal tract and in the chemoreceptor trigger zone (CTZ) of the area postrema.
2Blocks serotonin from binding to these receptors, preventing activation of the vomiting reflex.
3Inhibits the release of neurotransmitters such as substance P and dopamine, further reducing emetic signals.
