How It Works

Domperidone is a dopamine D2 receptor antagonist that acts primarily in the chemoreceptor trigger zone (CTZ) and gastrointestinal tract. It blocks dopamine receptors, increasing lower esophageal sphincter pressure, enhancing gastric motility and peristalsis, and accelerating gastric emptying.

Mechanism Steps

1Domperidone binds to and blocks dopamine D2 receptors in the chemoreceptor trigger zone (CTZ) and gastrointestinal tract.
2Blockade of D2 receptors in the CTZ reduces the sensation of nausea and vomiting.
3In the GI tract, D2 receptor blockade increases lower esophageal sphincter pressure.
