Mechanism Steps

1Capecitabine is absorbed orally and converted to 5'-deoxy-5-fluorocytidine (5'-DFCR) by carboxylesterase in the liver
25'-DFCR is converted to 5'-deoxy-5-fluorouridine (5'-DFUR) by cytidine deaminase in liver and tumor tissues
35'-DFUR is converted to 5-fluorouracil (5-FU) by thymidine phosphorylase, which is higher in tumor cells
