Overview

A triple-action laxative formulation combining a stimulant laxative (Sodium Picosulfate), a stool softener/lubricant (Liquid Paraffin), and an osmotic laxative (Milk of Magnesia). It is indicated for the effective relief of occasional constipation and for bowel evacuation prior to diagnostic or surgical procedures. The combination provides a synergistic effect by stimulating colonic peristalsis, softening hard stool, and drawing water into the intestinal lumen.

The combination exerts a multi-modal effect on constipation. Sodium Picosulfate is a prodrug converted by colonic bacteria to an active metabolite (BHPM) that directly stimulates the colonic mucosa, enhancing propulsive peristalsis. Liquid Paraffin acts as a lubricant and stool softener by coating the stool and intestinal mucosa, preventing water reabsorption and easing passage. Milk of Magnesia (Magnesium Hydroxide) is poorly absorbed and exerts an osmotic effect, drawing water into the intestinal lumen by osmosis, increasing intraluminal pressure, and stimulating motility.
