A fixed-dose combination (FDC) of a sympathomimetic decongestant (Phenylephrine), a first-generation antihistamine (Chlorpheniramine Maleate), and a centrally-acting antitussive (Dextromethorphan). It is primarily indicated for the symptomatic relief of cough and associated symptoms of upper respiratory tract infections, allergic rhinitis, and the common cold. It provides decongestion, reduces allergic symptoms, and suppresses non-productive cough.
Adult Dosage: One tablet/capsule every 6 to 8 hours. Maximum: 4 doses in 24 hours.
Instructions: Administer orally with or without food. Taking with food may reduce GI upset. Swallow whole with a full glass of water. Do not crush or chew sustained-release formulations. Avoid taking at bedtime if it causes insomnia (due to phenylephrine).
This combination works synergistically to relieve multiple symptoms of upper respiratory tract conditions. Phenylephrine acts as a nasal decongestant by vasoconstriction. Chlorpheniramine antagonizes histamine H1 receptors, reducing allergic symptoms like rhinorrhea and sneezing. Dextromethorphan suppresses the cough reflex by acting on the medullary cough center.
