Bromhexine (4mg/5ml) + Chlorpheniramine Maleate (2mg/5ml) + Phenylephrine (5mg/5ml)

🩺 Quick Overview

A fixed-dose combination oral liquid expectorant, antihistamine, and decongestant. Bromhexine is a mucolytic agent that thins and loosens respiratory tract secretions. Chlorpheniramine Maleate is a first-generation alkylamine antihistamine that provides symptomatic relief from allergic symptoms. Phenylephrine is a selective α1-adrenergic receptor agonist that acts as a nasal decongestant by vasoconstriction. This combination is indicated for the symptomatic relief of productive cough, nasal congestion, and rhinorrhea associated with upper respiratory tract infections and allergic conditions.

Mechanism of Action

The combination works synergistically: Bromhexine depolymerizes and hydrolyzes acidic mucopolysaccharide fibers in bronchial secretions, reducing viscosity. Chlorpheniramine competitively antagonizes histamine at the H1 receptor, inhibiting allergic and inflammatory responses. Phenylephrine stimulates postsynaptic α1-adrenergic receptors in vascular smooth muscle of the respiratory tract mucosa, causing vasoconstriction, reduced edema, and decreased nasal congestion.
