Pegasis (Note: This is Peginterferon alfa-2a, a different molecule. Included for context as it is often confused.) contains Pegylated Interferon Alpha 2B (100mcg). It is primarily used for:

• Chronic Hepatitis C (in combination with other antivirals like Ribavirin or DAAs)
• Chronic Hepatitis B (HBeAg positive or negative) with compensated liver disease

Side Effects

• Flu-like symptoms (fever, chills, headache, myalgia, arthralgia) - often diminish after initial doses
• Fatigue, asthenia
• Injection site reactions (erythema, pain, swelling)
• Alopecia (reversible)
• Anorexia, nausea
• Insomnia
• Neutropenia, thrombocytopenia, anemia

Contraindications

• Known hypersensitivity to interferon alfa-2b, polyethylene glycol, or any component
• Autoimmune hepatitis or history of severe autoimmune disease
• Decompensated liver disease (Child-Pugh Class B & C) prior to or during treatment
• Severe pre-existing psychiatric conditions (e.g., severe depression, suicidal ideation, history of severe psychiatric disorder)
