Univestin is a proprietary, patented botanical composition derived from the roots of Scutellaria baicalensis (Chinese skullcap) and the bark of Acacia catechu (Cutch tree). It is a standardized extract containing a specific ratio of bioactive flavonoids, primarily baicalin from skullcap and catechins from acacia. In the Indian context, it is marketed as a nutraceutical/dietary supplement for joint health and musculoskeletal comfort. It is not a drug and is not intended to diagnose, treat, cure, or prevent any disease.
Adult: 500 mg once or twice daily, or as directed by a healthcare practitioner. Typically, one capsule/tablet of 500mg strength taken with meals.
Note: Administer orally with a full glass of water, preferably with food to enhance absorption and minimize potential gastrointestinal upset. Do not crush or chew sustained-release formulations (if applicable).
Univestin exerts its effects through a multi-targeted approach involving modulation of key inflammatory and catabolic pathways implicated in joint tissue degradation and discomfort. It is not a direct analgesic.
Pregnancy: Category N (Not classified). Insufficient data on safety in pregnancy. Use is not recommended. Animal studies with components show mixed results.
Driving: Univestin may cause dizziness in some individuals. Patients should not drive or operate machinery if they experience this effect.
| Warfarin, Acenocoumarol, Clopidogrel, Aspirin | Potential increased risk of bleeding due to antiplatelet/anticoagulant effects of flavonoids. | Moderate |
| Cyclosporine, Tacrolimus | Baicalin may inhibit CYP3A4 and P-glycoprotein, potentially increasing levels of these immunosuppressants. | Moderate |
| Midazolam, Simvastatin (CYP3A4 substrates) | Potential increase in plasma concentrations of these drugs. | Mild |
| Non-Steroidal Anti-Inflammatory Drugs (NSAIDs) like Ibuprofen, Diclofenac | Additive anti-inflammatory effect; may allow for reduced NSAID dose but also potential additive GI side effects. | Mild |
