A fixed-dose combination topical preparation containing a broad-spectrum antibiotic (Chloramphenicol), an antifungal agent (Clotrimazole), and a potent corticosteroid (Beclometasone). It is primarily indicated for the treatment of mixed bacterial and fungal skin infections complicated by inflammation and pruritus. This combination provides a synergistic effect against common dermatological pathogens while controlling the inflammatory response.
Adult: Apply a thin layer to the affected area 2 to 3 times daily. Duration should not exceed 2 weeks without medical reassessment.
Note: Wash and dry the area gently before application. Apply a pea-sized amount for an area the size of the palm. Rub in gently until absorbed. Wash hands before and after application unless hands are the treated area. Do not cover with airtight occlusive dressings unless specifically advised by a doctor. Do not use in or near the eyes.
The combination exerts a triple action: Chloramphenicol inhibits bacterial protein synthesis, Clotrimazole disrupts fungal cell membrane integrity, and Beclometasone suppresses inflammation and immune response.
Pregnancy: Category C (US FDA). Corticosteroids are teratogenic in animals. Chloramphenicol crosses the placenta. Use only if potential benefit justifies potential fetal risk, especially in first trimester. Avoid large amounts or long duration.
Driving: No effect on driving ability.
| Other Topical Corticosteroids | Additive risk of skin atrophy and systemic absorption. | Major |
| Erythromycin, Clindamycin (topical) | Theoretical antagonism with Chloramphenicol (bacteriostatic vs. bacteriostatic). | Moderate |
| Warfarin, Acenocoumarol | Chloramphenicol may inhibit metabolism, increasing anticoagulant effect and INR. | Major |
| Phenytoin, Phenobarbital | Chloramphenicol may increase levels of these drugs via CYP450 inhibition. | Major |
| Sulfonylureas (e.g., Glimepiride) | Chloramphenicol may potentiate hypoglycemic effect. | Moderate |
| Cyclosporine | Chloramphenicol may increase cyclosporine levels. | Major |
